Tips for Your First Yoga Class
So you’ve finally mustered up the courage to sign up for your first yoga class. While you were brave enough to take your first step into yoga, you aren’t sure if you’re feeling brave enough to actually go to your first yoga class. We understand that it can seem intimidating, but really, a yoga studio is a very welcoming environment, and we can’t wait to help you start on your yoga journey. By using these tips, you can get yourself comfortable with coming to your first class. Here is how you should prepare.
Try Yoga on Your Own
This is a great way to start getting comfortable with the practice. There are plenty of videos that can help you get started online.
Get a Yoga Mat
If you don’t have one already, it’s time to get one. A double thick one is a great way to go because they provide more cushion than other mats do.
Get a Yoga Block
As you first start practicing yoga you won’t be as flexible and a block can help you position yourself so you get complete your stretches in the proper form. As you work through your practice, you’ll gain more flexibility and your block can aid in other aspects of your practice.
Get a Yoga Strap
Again, as a beginner, you won’t have the flexibility to do certain stretches on your own and a strap is a great aid for that. You can effectively complete the stretch as you need to, while also keeping yourself controlled. It will also help you avoid injury.
Bring a Towel
This is especially true if you’re going to a hot yoga class. You’re going to get really sweaty and a towel will help you maintain form by keeping your palm dry.
Don’t Forget Water
Beginners tend to underestimate the challenge that yoga can pose. Staying hydrated is extremely important for yoga practice.
